Become a Crisis Supporter

You can make a meaningful difference in our community by becoming an accredited Lifeline Crisis Supporter. Lifeline Loddon Mallee provides in depth, local training to equip you with the skills to support people during their toughest moments.

Our volunteers give their time, energy and expertise generously to achieve our Vision of an ‘Australia free of suicide', so that no person has to face their toughest moments alone.

About you

Our Crisis supporters provide a safe, calm and understanding space for help seekers to talk through what they’re experiencing. They listen actively and without judgement, allowing callers to feel heard and supported. 

You will receive training on evidence based crisis support techniques to help seekers feel grounded and less overwhelmed and collaborate with help seekers to explore coping strategies, support networks and practical next steps. Your work will be under professional supervision, with ongoing training, debriefing and support to maintain their wellbeing. 

  • Training:

    Approximately 170–180 hours over 12 months, including online learning, workshops, supervised shifts and internship. 

  • Your commitment:

    Commit to regular shifts (typically 6 hours per fortnight) and participate in reflective practice and ongoing learning. 

  • Pre-reading

    Pre-enrolment course information and compliance documents should be reviewed before applying.

  • Aged 18+ and living in Australia with suitable residency/visa requirements

  • Completion of National Police Check and relevant Working with Children/Vulnerable People checks.

  • Student contribution toward training, with subsidies provided locally

  1. Learn about the role – Review pre-enrolment information and compliance documents.

Submit an Expression of Interest – Allows the training team to contact applicants about upcoming intakes.

3. Attend training – Begin CSWT (blended learning, supervised practice and internship).

4. Start volunteering – Commence regular shifts after accreditation.
